Match Report
Loughborough Endowed Schools LGS 1st XI vs  Oakham School
On: Thursday, 18 Jan 2018
Venue: at Home

A solid performance in the First Round of the cup saw LGS to a 2v0 win, looking like a proper outfit, the 1sts went through several phases of the game with key performances from practically everyone. Two second half goals from Ben Rouse were supported by performances from debutant Tom Gamble and a measured Ben Hornsall. Louis Robinson provided poise and strength in the midfield.

The team should be very pleased with their performance, looking like a proper outfit, the 1sts went through several phases of the game with key performances from practically everyone. Gamble's debut for the 1sts was measured and held shape well while demonstrating his range of passing along with 'Khedira' Horsnall who, along with 'Pjanic' Werb, helped LGS dominate the midfield. This created a number of chances which were close and/or straight at the keeper. Rouse played the wing well, tracking back and looking to overlap where possible as did 'Candreva' Mynard who impressed greatly in this new position. The introduction of Robinson brought extra quality to the side showing great strength and poise on the ball. The defence looked solid despite a few long balls but a h/t scoreline of 0v0 did not tell the story of how the midfield ran the show.

The second half did though, thankfully. A set piece from Rouse was bundled in and after this scrappy goal, the team did well to keep playing, looking to break into the widening gaps in Oakham's backline. Krupa ventured forward 'Chiellini' style into the final third to offer some addition nouse and, indeed, the second goal was from an overlap with MoM 'Alex Sandro' Rouse arriving at the right time to finish from 7yds. The game got tasty towards the end although the team did well to keep their mentality strong and stick to their gameplan, running out 2v0 winners thanks to a good late save from 'Donnarumma' Taylor - an important foglio pulito.
