Match Report
Loughborough Endowed Schools LGS 1st XI vs  Denstone College
On: Saturday, 20 Jan 2018
Venue: at Home

A very different match of sorts taught LGS a few lessons on how to control a game during a heated affair v Denstone. Starting positively, the team fed the strikers well and supported them creating a number of chances in the first 25 minutes but it was the visitors who took the lead after LGS's inability to clear a corner, which was subsequently sliced in off the post. Within five minutes, LGS were level after a quick break and a good strike from the edge of the box from MoM 'Higuain' Corden. The ball was held up well and further chances were created off the creativity of 'Pjanic' Werb and 'Callejon' Rana. Just before half-time, a good ball from Werb sent through Corden who put two players down to send LGS into a well-deserved h/t lead despite a clear Denstone handball going unpunished just before the whistle.

The defence worked well in the second half with 'Rugani' Heron standing strong and not putting a foot wrong all game. The first action was a 20yd free-kick from 'Perisic' Rouse which hit the cross-bar after him taking a taxi around the ball to trick the keeper. Jamie Thompson made his full debut and made a number of runs before 'Spinazzola' Thompson narrowly overdid a chip which landed on the roof of the net. Denstone had run out of ideas with 'Maguire' Pagett-Wright dealing with any central aerial threats so the opposition decided to try and fight LGS off their game plan but the composure of the midfield, especially 'Verratti' Gamble kept them at bay. Werb came back on towards the end and wrapped up the third goal after some good close control to make it 3v1 and allow LGS to see the game out with some game management.

Two away games now offer a different test over the next few weeks.
